The Baikal Ice Marathon is the world’s fastest flat footrace across ice, consisting of a 42 km run across an icy Siberian backdrop. The race is a rare physical feat and a unique opportunity for participants to bound across the entirely frozen surface of Baikal, the world’s largest, deepest and oldest lake.

Overseen by the Baikal marathon ‘Ice Captain’ and a support team, the race is well prepared for the thousands of adrenaline-fueled participants that take part each year in March. Predominantly flat and covered in a soft layer of snow, the lake surface crafts a unique terrain for runners and an opportunity to be at the centre of Lake Baikal, one of Siberia’s breathtaking natural wonders.

Welcome to Irkutsk

Day 1: Welcome to Irkutsk

After arrival at Irkutsk airport transfer to the BIM training lodge at Utulik settlement.

Testing & acclimatization

Day 2: Testing & acclimatization

First test running session amidst the taiga-woods trails led by your trainer (7 km – no cutoff time). After lunch – transfer to a «Sable Mountain» Alpine Ski center to undergo through another session of acclimatization course.

Train day

Day 3: Train day

2-nd training session – now run 8 km on the ice of Lake Baikal.

Banya day

Day 4: Banya day

2-hour active relaxation downhill skiing or snowboarding the Mount Sable’s slopes. After final downhill acclimatization and leisure session, drive to the world’s unique steam bath – Ice Banya Steam Bath.

Race day

Day 5: Race day

It’s the day of the ice marathon. An awards ceremony and press conference will proceed, followed by a Baikal Ice Marathon Reception Dinner for participants.

Farewell hugs

Day 6: Farewell hugs

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and a transfer to the airport for your flight back home.

The Legend of Baikal Hotel is located at one of Baikal’s most scenic sights – besides the Angara River, opposite the legendary Shaman Rock in the Listvyanka settlement.
